Artist Bill W. Dodge, whose best known for his colorful highly detailed and often humorous paintings, is the featured artist for our 2017 poster.  The poster design is from one of his newest works title “Astoria is…. and much much more!”  Dodge has been painting scenes of Astoria since 1990 when he moved to the area from Carmel, California where he had an art gallery for several decades.   Following a short period of artistic retirement in 2012 the 83 year old artist has resumed painting full time.  Artist Bill W. Dodge will have his latest major new Astoria original painting available for acquisition, plus full size prints of the colorful new work.   “I wanted to further define what Astoria means to me visually.   The sights and sounds which make this incredible area so unique and appealing.   I actually thought the large (22×28) depiction would finally fully pictorially define its heart and soul,” Dodge says about the painting.   “But, try as I might I can only proceed on my artistic journey to depict Astoria.   And the title of this new piece says why I will continue defining Astoria visually in the coming years.  It is entitled ‘Astoria is … and much, much more!”

We are excited to have Bill back at the Market full time this season!

Michael Mathers attended nearly every Astoria Sunday Market the first half of the 2011 season and countless hours
photographing the Market from set-up to tear-down to create  this wonderful time-lapsed movie from his still images of the Market.
Michael is a professional photographer and created this movie as a personal project. Enjoy!

Astoria Sunday Market is located in the heart of Astoria’s historic downtown on 12th Street spanning four blocks from Marine Drive (Highway 30) to Exchange Street.  Astoria, Oregon, is perched along the Columbia River where river and ocean merge.  The green hillside of Washington State offers a majestic backdrop to the river traffic and bustle of Astoria’s waterfront.
